The side raise is a great exercise for your shoulders. It works your middle deltoid, i.e. the muscle on the outside of your shoulder, the one you use to raise your arm straight out to the side.
The side raise is NOT an exercise for the pecs or lower back. If that’s where you’re feeling it, you’re doing it wrong.
